…he gave the directive Ahead of Okefia Flyover Commissioning

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo as part of efforts to improve public infrastructure and ensure the facility is in good condition before the commissioning of the newly completed Okefia Flyover Bridge.

The governor issued the directive on Sunday after making an unscheduled stop at the bridge to inspect its condition. Concerned by its deteriorating state, Adeleke instructed the Osun State Ministry of Works to begin immediate remedial work on the structure.

He ordered the ministry to assess the bridge, carry out necessary repairs, clean the environment and address any identified defects to ensure it complements the modern Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges.

Governor Adeleke stressed that government infrastructure belongs to the people and should be properly maintained, irrespective of which administration initiated or completed the projects.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset, and we must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” the governor said during the inspection.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to continuity in governance, Adeleke noted that every government has a responsibility to preserve public assets inherited from previous administrations.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all projects completed by previous administrations must also be properly maintained,” he added.

The governor’s directive comes as the state government concludes preparations for the official inauguration of the Okefia Flyover Bridge, one of the flagship infrastructure projects expected to improve traffic flow within Osogbo and surrounding communities.

The rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge is expected to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the area while ensuring motorists and pedestrians continue to enjoy safe and efficient movement within the state capital.

Governor Adeleke has consistently maintained that infrastructure development, timely completion of projects and effective maintenance of public facilities remain central to his administration’s agenda for sustainable development across Osun State.

The directive was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
