The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by purported Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government council executives to take over council secretariats across the state.
The APC, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, claimed that the purported PDP chairmen and councillors were planning to move into the 30 local government secretariats and the Area Office on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The statement was signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun APC Director of Media and Information, who alleged that the group had mobilised political hoodlums from within and outside the state to execute the planned action.
According to Olabisi, the development followed the recent re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, which he claimed had encouraged the purported PDP council executives to regroup and push ahead with their plans.
The APC spokesman further alleged that the planned takeover was being carried out in collaboration with officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state. He accused the union of being willing to support the state government in the dispute over control of the local councils.
Olabisi urged the Osun State Police Command, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take preventive measures to stop what the party described as a possible breach of public peace.
The APC also argued that the dispute over the local government councils remains before the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, and maintained that parties involved should allow the judicial process to run its full course rather than resort to force.
The party warned that any attempt to take over the council secretariats outside the courts would amount to a breach of the law. It called on the purported PDP council executives to pursue their grievances through constitutional and legal channels.
The statement also referenced the killing of Honourable Remi Abass, a reinstated APC local government chairman from Irewole Local Government Area, who the APC alleged was killed by suspected PDP-linked thugs. The party said some suspects in the case were currently standing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The APC further referred to the Supreme Court proceedings involving the disputed council executives, claiming that the apex court had described the purported PDP council officials as persons “unknown to the law.” The party used the claim to reinforce its position that the affected individuals should not attempt to assume control of the councils outside the ongoing legal process.
The Osun APC called on residents to remain vigilant and appealed to security agencies to closely monitor developments around the local government secretariats. It warned that any breakdown of law and order should be thoroughly investigated, particularly the actions of those it accused of planning the alleged invasion.
As of the publication of this report, the allegations contained in the APC statement had not been independently verified by Entrust Media, and no response from the PDP, NULGE or the affected council officials was included in the statement.
