…NSE Osogbo Branch pledges mentorship and professional guidance for inductees
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Osogbo (Virtuous) Branch, on Monday, September 21, 2026, inducted 200 engineering graduates of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) into the professional engineering community.
The induction, which marked the 10th edition of the NSE Engineering Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony, brought together university administrators, academics, industry leaders, experienced engineering practitioners, NSE executives and members, as well as parents and other stakeholders.
The ceremony provided an opportunity to formally welcome the graduates into the engineering profession while reminding them of the responsibilities that come with their training.
In his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Prof. Titus Adewole, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the university community for their support towards the development of the faculty.
Adewole described the induction as a reflection of the graduates’ journey through innovation, advancement and commitment to contributing to society.
He urged the new engineers to become solution providers, stressing that engineers have an important role to play in connecting traditional practices with modern technological solutions.
According to him, young engineers represent an important source of innovation because of their fresh perspectives, enthusiasm and curiosity.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the NSE Osogbo (Virtuous) Branch, Engr. Oyediran Asimiyu Amobi, MNSE, FNICE, assured the inductees that the society remained committed to supporting them as they begin their professional careers.
Amobi encouraged the new engineers to join the Young Engineers Forum of Nigeria (YEFON), describing it as an avenue for professional guidance, practical exposure, skills development, leadership opportunities and industry networking.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Morufu Olayiwola, congratulated the inductees on their achievement.
He commended them for the hard work, resilience and commitment that brought them to the point of entering the professional community.
The Vice-Chancellor’s representative reminded the graduates that engineering goes beyond mathematics, machines, technology, structures and systems.
He said the profession ultimately involves solving human problems and improving the quality of life, urging the new engineers to allow competence, integrity and responsibility to guide their professional conduct.
“Every bridge you design, every system you develop, every structure you construct, every technological solution you create has consequences for human lives,” he said.
He further cautioned the inductees against sacrificing safety for speed, integrity for profit or professional standards for personal convenience.
Representing the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, Engr. Prof. Felix Adeniran Oginni, FNSE, urged the graduates to take advantage of emerging technologies in addressing societal challenges.
He also reminded them of the importance of upholding the ethics and standards of the engineering profession throughout their careers.
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Azeez Olabode, encouraged the inductees to pay close attention to detail and apply their engineering knowledge to practical challenges confronting individuals and communities.
He also advised them to collaborate, build professional networks, develop their capacity and remain prepared to add value to society.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance, conducted by the NSE President’s representative and the Chairman of the Osogbo Branch.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to outstanding graduating students from the various engineering disciplines, including Civil, Mechanical, Agricultural and Biosystems, Computer, Chemical, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Agboola Pius Oluwaferanmi, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, emerged as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering with a CGPA of 4.91. A contemporaneous UNIOSUN report independently confirmed the achievement.
Oluwaferanmi received a cash prize and plaque from the NSE Osogbo Branch, in addition to a ₦100,000 cash prize donated by the former Branch Chairman, Engr. Idowu Wasiu Olalekan, FNSE.
Awards were also presented through representatives of professional engineering bodies and divisions, including NICE, NIMECHE, NIEEE, NIAE and APWEN.
In their goodwill messages, the Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Engr. Prof. Jeleel Oguntola Alamu; former NSE Osogbo Branch Chairman, Engr. Idowu Wasiu Olalekan, FNSE; and NSE Abeokuta Branch Chairman, Engr. Ibrahim Musa, FNSE, encouraged the inductees to continue developing relevant professional skills.
They urged the graduates to embrace emerging technologies while upholding the reputation, ethics and standards of the engineering profession.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Engr. Dr. Olubunmi Adeyemi, thanked the university community, NSE, parents and the inductees for their support towards the success of the ceremony.
He also prayed for God’s guidance and success for the graduates as they begin the next phase of their professional journeys.
The 10th induction ceremony marked another significant milestone for the engineering community as the graduates formally joined the professional fold and began a new chapter in their careers.
