… Olawale Rasheed dismisses allegations of victimisation of LG workers as false
The Osun State Government has rejected allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that some local government workers are being victimised because of their political affiliations, describing the claims as another example of what it called “fake news” from the opposition.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, made the position known in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in response to the allegations raised by the Osun APC.
Rasheed said the governor had adopted a reconciliation approach following the August 15, 2026 governorship election, stressing that Adeleke had declared that there was “no winner, no vanquished” after the poll.
According to him, the governor also extended an olive branch to political opponents and announced that he had forgiven those who, in his words, had offended or persecuted him.
Rasheed said Adeleke subsequently moved to translate the reconciliation message into concrete actions by establishing an electoral violence compensation fund, alongside two other panels tasked with finding lasting solutions to political violence in the state.
Against that background, the governor’s spokesperson dismissed the APC’s allegation of political witch-hunting of local government employees, describing it as a product of the opposition’s imagination.
He maintained that local government workers were protected by the applicable public service rules and regulations, adding that government agencies were committed to safeguarding workers’ rights within the limits of the law.
“The governor and all agencies of government are committed to protection of the rights of all workers within the ambit of the law and public service regulations,” Rasheed said.
The spokesperson, however, called on public servants to remain guided by the rules governing the public service, noting that compliance with established regulations was essential to discipline, orderliness and effective service delivery.
“Obedience to rules and regulations of the public service is compulsory for discipline and orderliness in service delivery to the members of the public,” he added.
The statement came after the Osun APC accused the Adeleke administration of allegedly targeting some local government workers over their perceived political affiliations. The party alleged, among other things, that some workers were being subjected to investigations connected with their political activities and that their phones and financial transactions had allegedly been scrutinised.
Those allegations have not been independently established, and the state government has now categorically rejected them.
The latest exchange is part of the broader political and administrative disagreements surrounding local government affairs in Osun. The dispute has generated competing claims from the state government and APC over the administration of the councils and the welfare of local government workers.
Rasheed’s statement did not identify individual workers allegedly being victimised or provide details of specific disciplinary cases. Instead, it stressed the Adeleke administration’s stated commitment to workers’ rights while reminding public servants of their obligation to comply with service regulations.
