Dr. Gbenga Hashim, presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has characterized the outcome of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections as a clear indicator of the party’s rebuilding trajectory ahead of the 2027 general elections, notwithstanding prevailing internal headwinds and political pressures.
In his post-election reaction, Hashim commended party stakeholders and supporters for what he described as a commendable showing under challenging circumstances. He maintained that the results underscore the PDP’s enduring structural capacity and electoral viability, despite ongoing national leadership tensions.
Describing the PDP as a party on the rebound, Hashim asserted that attempts to destabilize its base in the FCT did not erode grassroots confidence. He emphasized that, even amid internal disagreements and external resistance, the electorate demonstrated continued alignment with the party’s platform.
Although the PDP was formally declared winner in one Area Council, Hashim contended that the party had legitimate grounds to claim victory in three additional councils, alleging that the outcome in those jurisdictions did not accurately reflect voter intent. He argued that, regardless of perceived irregularities, the PDP’s performance remained significant and indicative of latent strength.
