Presidential aspirant and former presidential candidate, Gbenga Hashim, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a revered leader of the Tijaniyya Sufi order and a prominent figure in global Islamic scholarship.
During the visit, Dr. Hashim delivered remarks in Hausa, which he subsequently translated, reflecting on the exceptional legacy of the late cleric. He noted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi distinguished himself at a time when religious expression is often disconnected from genuine spirituality. According to him, while many lay claim to religious authority, very few embody true fear of God.
He described the late Sheikh as not only deeply religious but also intellectually grounded, well-informed, and profoundly God-fearing, emphasizing that these qualities set him apart as a moral compass for both religious and non-religious audiences alike.
Dr. Hashim, who shares June 28 as his birthday with the late Islamic scholar, was accompanied by a high-powered delegation. Members of the entourage included Sheikh Haliru Abdullahi Maraya (Kaduna), Dr. Ibrahim Umar (Kaduna), Mr. Kamaldeen Adebayo Sanni (FCT), Hajia Rabi Musa (Nasarawa), and Mr. Ezekiel Dinfa (Plateau), alongside coordinators of the Hashim Organization across the three senatorial districts and all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.
The visit underscored Dr. Hashim’s engagement with faith leaders and communities, as well as his recognition of the enduring spiritual and social impact of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
