The governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Dr. Oyelami Saliu Orisunlagba, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and the Accord Party candidate to collapse their political structures and support his ambition ahead of the August 15, 2026 poll.

Dr. Orisunlagba made the appeal while speaking during the 10th edition of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) Media Parley held on Friday, June 19, 2026. The programme, which was streamed live on OOPA’s Facebook platform, featured discussions on governance, politics, and development issues ahead of the governorship election.

Responding to a question from a viewer who asked whether he would consider aligning with either the APC or Accord Party before the election, the PRP candidate dismissed the possibility. Instead, he argued that the major contenders should rally behind his candidacy, expressing confidence that he possesses the vision and capacity to deliver better governance for Osun State.

According to Orisunlagba, Governor Adeleke will remain in office until the end of his tenure and subsequently hand over power to him on November 27, 2026, after what he predicted would be his victory at the polls. He maintained that the August governorship election presents an opportunity for Osun residents to embrace a new leadership direction.

Speaking on his agenda for the state, the PRP flagbearer outlined several initiatives he intends to pursue if elected. He pledged to prioritise education and youth development, revealing that he would personally teach in secondary schools as governor to inspire students and promote academic excellence. He also promised to recruit and engage highly qualified graduates across key sectors to enhance service delivery and accelerate development.

The OOPA Media Parley is a monthly platform that hosts distinguished personalities from various fields who have made notable contributions to their communities, professions, the state, and the nation.

Dr. Orisunlagba previously contested the Osun governorship election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2022 but was unsuccessful. Now contesting on the platform of the PRP, he joins 13 other candidates seeking to unseat the incumbent governor in what is expected to be a closely watched election.

With less than two months to the August 15 governorship poll, political activities are gathering momentum across the state as parties intensify campaigns and mobilise support. The election will determine whether Osun voters opt for continuity under Governor Ademola Adeleke or choose a new direction under one of the opposition candidates.
