…Accord candidate hails Osun voters as heroes of 2026 governorship election
…Predicts support for party in presidential, National and State Assembly polls
Presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has expressed confidence that Osun State voters will support the party in the 2027 general elections.
Hashim made the prediction while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, over the weekend.
Speaking about the recently concluded Osun governorship election, the Accord candidate described the people of the state as the “heroes” of the poll, commending their determination to participate in the democratic process despite what he described as difficult circumstances.
According to him, the resolve of Osun voters to exercise their franchise was a major factor in ensuring that their political choices were expressed at the ballot box.
Hashim also referred to reports of the deaths of more than 40 people during the build-up to the election, saying the incidents could have discouraged voters from participating.
He said, despite the challenges, residents remained determined to exercise their democratic rights and, in his view, demonstrated the strength of their political convictions.
The Accord candidate described the development as another indication that the people of Osun could not easily be forced to abandon their preferred political choices.
«“Osun people have once again reaffirmed that they are not conquerable,” Hashim said.»
He argued that the political resilience of the state had been demonstrated in previous elections, when voters allegedly resisted pressure from powerful political interests and supported candidates or parties of their choice.
Hashim recalled the 2011 presidential election, when Nuhu Ribadu, then the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), won Osun State. He described the result as an example of what he considers the state’s willingness to make independent political choices.
“This is what it means to be an Omoluabi,” Hashim said, linking the Yoruba concept to what he described as the courage, integrity and determination of Osun people to decide their political future.
Looking ahead to 2027, the Accord presidential candidate said he believed the same spirit would work in favour of his party.
Hashim predicted that Osun voters would support Accord candidates not only in the presidential election but also in the National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
«“I have no doubt that the people of Osun will stand with Accord in 2027. They have demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot be conquered or compelled to surrender their democratic choice. We are confident that Osun will vote for Accord at the presidential, National Assembly and State Assembly elections,” he said.»
His comments come as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the outcome of the 2026 Osun governorship poll expected to influence political calculations and campaign strategies ahead of the next electoral cycle.
For Accord, Hashim’s remarks suggest that the party intends to build on its performance and political visibility in Osun as it prepares for the 2027 presidential and legislative contests.
