Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday formally launched his re-election campaign for the August 15 governorship election, declaring that the people of the state remain committed to continuity, progress, and people-focused governance.
The campaign flag-off, held in Osogbo, attracted a massive crowd of supporters, party faithful, community leaders, labour unions, pensioners, youths, women groups, artisans, farmers, religious organizations, and professional associations from across the state.
A major highlight of the event was the reception of more than 10,000 defectors from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and other political parties, who officially joined the ruling Accord Party ahead of the governorship poll.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Adeleke described the wave of defections as a clear indication of growing public confidence in his administration and its developmental agenda.
The governor thanked residents of the state for their unwavering support since he assumed office in November 2022, noting that his administration has remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy despite prevailing economic and governance challenges.
According to Adeleke, the achievements recorded over the past three and a half years are visible across critical sectors of the state’s economy. He cited ongoing infrastructure projects, debt reduction efforts, healthcare improvements, education reforms, water sector revitalisation, agricultural mechanisation programmes, digital economy initiatives, and enhanced fiscal transparency as evidence of his administration’s commitment to good governance.
“Our administration has worked tirelessly to fulfill the promises we made to the people of Osun. We have laid a solid foundation for sustainable development, and the task before us now is to consolidate these gains and accelerate the pace of progress,” the governor said.
Looking ahead, Adeleke unveiled a renewed Five-Point Agenda, which he said would drive his second-term vision. The agenda focuses on citizens’ welfare, infrastructure expansion, agro-industrial development, affordable healthcare and education, as well as job creation and economic empowerment.
He assured supporters that a second term would enable his administration to deepen ongoing reforms and expand opportunities for residents across the state.
The governor also used the occasion to address concerns surrounding recent legal disputes involving the Accord Party, expressing confidence that the party would remain on the ballot for the August election.
“Accord will be on the ballot. We will vote, our votes will count, and by the grace of God, victory and continuity shall prevail,” Adeleke declared to loud cheers from supporters.
He urged party members and supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to grassroots mobilisation as the election campaign gathers momentum.
Political observers described the large turnout and influx of defectors as a significant boost to Adeleke’s re-election bid, while party leaders expressed optimism that the Accord Party would secure another mandate when Osun voters head to the polls on August 15.
The event marked the official commencement of the governor’s statewide campaign, setting the tone for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched governorship elections in the state’s political history.
