The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has intensified its preparations for the August elections, bringing together key stakeholders to align expectations and reinforce confidence in the electoral process.
While Addressing participants on wednesday 25th, 2026 at the INEC Osogbo Local government office, along ilobu road, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, was unequivocal about the sanctity of election records, warning that no figure must be altered under any circumstance. He stressed that the Commission is determined to deliver a transparent process and avoid a repeat of controversies seen in past elections in other parts of the country.
Agboke also issued a strong caution to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), condemning the practice of transport operators claiming sudden vehicle breakdowns while on duty. He noted that such actions, often driven by political loyalties, disrupt logistics and undermine the process, adding that offenders would face strict consequences.
Extending his message to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the REC emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity, he warned the presiding officer to stay clear of manipulations of any form. He assured stakeholders that Unlike FCT, the Osun election would serve as a benchmark for improved standards, with no room for compromise saying “I will use Osun Election to make Loud Statement”.
INEC also called on relevant agencies to step up their efforts, particularly in Osogbo, which has been identified as a potential flashpoint during the polls. Political candidates were also urged to play by the rules, conduct issue-based campaigns, and accept the outcome of the election in good faith.
Speaking on behalf of the Divisional Police Officer of Ataoja Division, CSP Omowunmi Akinwande, ASP Gbenga Oyaniran reassured stakeholders of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to provide adequate security. He warned that anyone found engaging in electoral malpractice would be dealt with decisively.
Representatives of political parties, including the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), expressed confidence in INEC’s preparedness. They, however, called for sustained collaboration between the Commission and security agencies to curb electoral misconduct.
In a move to strengthen accountability, Agboke disclosed that all INEC ad-hoc staff and NURTW personnel would be required to sign affidavits committing to their roles. This, he explained, would make it easier to track and prosecute anyone who defaults.
He concluded by commending stakeholders for their engagement and announced that similar meetings would be held across all local government areas in Osun State as preparations for the election continue.
