The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is now being challenged at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal following the filing of petitions by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, 2026, as the tribunal secretariat continued preparations for the commencement of proceedings.
The development follows the August 15, 2026 governorship election in which Adeleke was declared the winner and returned for another term in office.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The petition names Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
A second petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola. The respondents in the case are Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The display of the petitions followed an earlier notice by the tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, that the documents would be posted before noon on Monday.
Secretariat staff were also present at the tribunal as preparations for the commencement of sitting continued.
However, the posting of the petitions is a procedural step and does not amount to a determination of the issues raised by the petitioners. The respondents must first be properly served before the cases can proceed to full hearing.
As of Monday, September 7, Governor Adeleke remains the duly declared winner of the August 15 election. The detailed grounds on which the two petitions are challenging the election have not yet been made public.
The tribunal has also not issued any ruling on the petitions, meaning the legal challenge is still at its preliminary stage.
The cases are expected to draw further attention to the conduct and outcome of the August 15 Osun governorship election as the parties begin the legal process of presenting their respective positions before the tribunal.
