…Bola Oyebamiji Gets Massive APC Heavyweights Backing ahead of Poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday rounded off its campaign for the Osun State governorship election with a high-powered rally in Osogbo, as national party leaders, governors and former office holders rallied support for the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
The mega rally, held at Freedom Park, Osogbo, attracted Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, former Osun governor Gboyega Oyetola, former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Senator Iyiola Omisore and other prominent party leaders.
Also at the event were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, among others.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was represented by Nigeria Senate President, Godswill Akpabio at the Mega rally, urged Osun voters to come out peacefully on Saturday, August 15, and exercise their franchise.
He assured residents that security arrangements had been made to protect voters and other participants during the election, while appealing to political actors and their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation and harassment.
The Senate President also urged voters to consider electing an APC government in Osun, arguing that closer alignment between the state and the Federal Government could improve access to federal development programmes.
“There is a need for you to link Osun State with the centre,” Akpabio said, while urging voters to choose wisely and participate peacefully.
He expressed confidence in the APC’s political structure in the state, citing the influence of party leaders including Chief Bisi Akande, Gboyega Oyetola and Iyiola Omisore.
While Addressing the crowd, The All Progressives Congress Candidate for Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji thanked the APC leadership and supporters for backing his campaign and promised to run an administration focused on the welfare of Osun residents if elected.
The APC candidate used the occasion to draw a sharp contrast between his campaign message and the style of the incumbent administration.
Speaking in Yoruba, Oyebamiji declared:
“Governance is not about dancing. No more dancing in Osun. It’s time for work.”
He described governance as a serious responsibility rather than entertainment, promising that his administration would focus on projects and policies capable of improving the lives of residents.
“The government that is respectful will take care of you when elected on the 15th of August,” he said, adding that he had a mandate to “touch the lives” of the people.
Other APC leaders, including Oyetola, Akande and Omisore, also appealed to Osun voters to support Oyebamiji at the polls.
The rally also witnessed a notable political development involving the Accord Party.
Factional Chairman of Accord Party, Professor Christopher Imumolen, announced support for Oyebamiji and called on members of his faction to vote for the APC candidate on Saturday.
Imumolen said the faction had withdrawn its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and would back Oyebamiji in the election.
The development comes amid competing claims over the political direction of Accord in Osun and should therefore be understood specifically as the position announced by Imumolen and his faction.
APC campaign enters final phase
The Osogbo rally marked the APC’s final major campaign outing ahead of the election, coming on the last day of the official campaign period.
The party has used the final stage of its campaign to consolidate its grassroots structures and mobilise supporters across Osun’s 30 local government areas.
With the campaign now over, attention has shifted from rallies to the ballot box, as Bola Oyebamiji politically known as AMBO and other candidates prepare for Saturday’s contest against incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and other contenders.
The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with voters expected to determine who will govern Osun for the next 4 years.
