…Says Imumolen’s Threat Cannot Stop Adeleke’s Re-election
The Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Akande David, has dismissed the declaration of a purported factional chairman of the party at the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally, describing the development as a “paperweight” that would have no impact on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.
Akande, who spoke ahead of Saturday’s governorship election made this known in an interview with Journalist in Osogbo, insisted that the Accord Party has no faction in Osun State, while alleging that the individual presented as the party’s factional chairman does not enjoy the membership or support of Accord members across the state.
According to him, the purported factional structure was being sponsored by opposition interests as part of efforts to create confusion within the party ahead of the election.
The Accord chairman also dismissed the possibility of Professor Christopher Imumolen influencing the outcome of Saturday’s election, describing his recent promises and political declarations as an “empty threat” that would not change the decision of Osun voters.
Akande maintained that the people of Osun State were determined to return Governor Adeleke to office, insisting that the electorate would not be swayed by what he described as attempts to create uncertainty around the Accord Party’s participation in the election.
He further alleged that Imumolen had been expelled from the Accord Party during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting following developments surrounding the party’s 2024 convention.

Akande consequently accused the APC of allegedly using Imumolen as part of its political strategy ahead of the governorship election.
The chairman urged residents of Osun State to come out in large numbers on Saturday to exercise their constitutional right and vote for the Accord Party candidate.
He expressed confidence in the security arrangements for the election, saying adequate security personnel had been deployed to ensure that voters could participate without fear or intimidation.
Akande also sought to allay concerns over the alleged influence of “federal might” in the election, expressing confidence that the electoral process would be free, fair and credible.
He called on the people of Osun to remain peaceful before, during and after the election, stressing that the final decision should be made through the ballot.
The August 15 governorship election has attracted 13 candidates seeking to unseat the incumbent governor, with the contest expected to be closely watched across Osun State.
As voters prepare to cast their ballots, the competing claims by the various political parties and candidates are expected to be tested at the polls on Saturday.
ENTRUST REPORTERS could recall that the Osun State governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with 14 candidates participating in the contest.
