The Accord Party in Osun State has alleged that its members and supporters were targeted in a series of violent attacks across parts of the state during the governorship election, claiming that 15 members had been killed.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by the party’s State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande.
Accord alleged that suspected APC supporters carried out attacks in several local government areas, including Obokun, Odo-Otin, Boripe and Irewole, leaving several people injured and causing damage to properties belonging to party members.
According to the party, some of the worst incidents occurred in Iree, where gunmen allegedly opened fire around the palace of the Aree of Iree during the night.
Accord claimed that five people sustained injuries within the palace during the alleged attack, while several other party supporters were reportedly wounded in the surrounding area.
The party also alleged that violence continued in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area, where it claimed several people were killed and houses belonging to Accord members were burnt.
Accord said the violence in the area began about two days before the election and accused security agencies of failing to bring the situation under control.
In Odo-Otin Local Government Area, the party alleged that gun attacks occurred in Okuku and other communities, claiming that more than 20 Accord members were receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.
The party further alleged that the homes of about 25 Accord members were raided in Ikire, with family members allegedly harassed and properties vandalised.
According to the statement, the residence of Accord campaign Director-General, Senator Lere Oyewumi, was also among those allegedly attacked.
Accord raises alarm over Ifewara incident
In Ifewara, Accord alleged that an APC House of Assembly candidate who was arrested and later released had coordinated attacks on party members and their residences.
The party further claimed that military personnel who arrested the candidate and other suspects were subsequently suspended by naval authorities.
That claim had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
The party also raised allegations concerning political developments in Osogbo, claiming that the names of five senior appointees of the Adeleke administration had been identified in connection with alleged plans for attacks and arrests.
Accord further alleged that an APC chieftain, Chief Tunde Badmus, directed that one of the appointees be arrested if he appeared at a polling station.
The claim was also not independently verified.
Adeleke promises independent inquiry
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in election-related violence across the state.
In a statement cited by Accord, the governor said every life lost represented an Osun life and stressed that political disagreements should never result in the death of citizens.
Adeleke reportedly promised that an Independent Commission of Inquiry would be established immediately after the election to investigate reported killings and other acts of violence connected to the election period.
He said the commission would determine the circumstances surrounding the incidents and recommend appropriate action against anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation, position or influence.
The governor also said his administration would create a framework to support and compensate families of victims and ensure that the memories of those who lost their lives were properly honoured.
“The election will come and go, but we will remain one people. We owe the dead justice, their families compassion, and the people of Osun a peaceful future,” Adeleke said.
The latest allegations come amid heightened concerns over political violence surrounding the 2026 Osun governorship election, with political parties and security agencies repeatedly calling on supporters to remain peaceful.
The competing political camps have traded accusations over incidents of violence in different parts of the state, making independent verification particularly important.
For now, the reported figure of 15 deaths, the alleged attack on the Iree palace, the claimed suspension of military personnel and the alleged directive involving an Adeleke appointee remain claims contained in the Accord statement and should not be treated as independently established facts without confirmation from relevant authorities.
The developments have nevertheless heightened concerns over the safety of voters, party agents, journalists, election officials and residents as the electoral process continues across Osun State.
