The governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State gathered further momentum on Thursday as the party inaugurated more than 11,000 election canvassers across Irewole, Isokan and Aiyedaade Local Government Areas ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The mobilisation exercise was led by the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), alongside his running mate, Prince Benjamin Adereti Kayode, and the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke.
Also present were the Director-General of APC Campaign Council for Osun Central, Hon. Bayo Adeleke (Banik), Ambassador Issah Niniola, Comrade Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega, Hon. Taiwo Oluga, and other senior party leaders and stakeholders.
According to figures released by the campaign council, a total of 11,490 canvassers were inaugurated across the three local government areas, with 4,140 deployed in Irewole, 2,850 in Isokan, and 4,500 in Aiyedaade.
The events, held in Gbongan, Apomu and Ikire, attracted large gatherings of party members, ward coordinators, grassroots mobilisers and supporters. Party leaders described the turnout as a reflection of the APC’s growing acceptance at the grassroots level.
Addressing supporters during the inauguration ceremonies, Hon. Oluwole Oke said the impressive attendance across the three councils demonstrated the party’s deep-rooted connection with the people.
«”These are our people — committed party faithful, dedicated followers and canvassers drawn from their wards and polling units. What we are witnessing is genuine loyalty and a tested political structure,” he said.»
Oke maintained that the APC’s strength lies in its long-standing relationship with local communities, urging the newly inaugurated canvassers to see their assignment as a commitment to both the party and the future of Osun State.
He assured them of continuous engagement, training and support as the party intensifies preparations for the governorship election.
In his remarks, Asiwaju Oyebamiji reiterated his commitment to providing inclusive governance if elected governor. He outlined his vision for improved infrastructure, better healthcare delivery, quality education and agricultural development across the state.
“This is your son. This is your moment. Let us work together to reclaim Osun and build a future we can all be proud of,” Oyebamiji told supporters.
At Apomu, Comrade Festus Oyebade engaged residents on key developmental concerns, including road infrastructure, healthcare services, education and agricultural growth, receiving what party officials described as overwhelming support from attendees.
The campaign train later moved to Ikire, where supporters turned out in large numbers to welcome the APC candidate. Party leaders described the atmosphere as energetic and indicative of strong local support for Oyebamiji’s candidacy.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Wole Oke called on party members and stakeholders to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the poll.
“AMBO is your son. We must work together and deliver victory for Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji at the polls,” he said.
Oke also reflected on the area’s history of supporting prominent political leaders from different parts of the state, including the late Chief Bola Ige, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
According to him, the time has come for residents of the area to unite behind one of their own.
“You have supported others over the years. Now is the time to support your own son,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Hon. Bayo Adeleke paid tribute to the late Remi Abass, calling for justice while encouraging residents to honour his memory through active participation in the democratic process.
The APC campaign also highlighted ongoing efforts by its Employment Committee to document and engage young graduates across Osun State for potential federal opportunities, urging beneficiaries to cooperate with the initiative.
Reaffirming the party’s strategy, campaign leaders said the APC remains focused on grassroots mobilisation, structured engagement and direct voter outreach as it seeks victory in the August 15 governorship election.
With the successful inauguration of canvassers across the three local government areas, the party expressed confidence that its campaign continues to gain momentum across Osun State.
Oyebamiji thanked party leaders, supporters and stakeholders in Gbongan, Apomu and Ikire for their commitment to the campaign, assuring residents that an APC administration would prioritise transparent, inclusive and impactful governance.
