A fresh controversy has emerged in Nigeria’s political space following remarks attributed to APC chieftain Tony Okocha, who alleged that election results were, at times, pre-written before being officially announced.
According to reports, Okocha claimed that during his time in office, results were prepared in advance within a Chief of Staff’s office and subsequently handed over to electoral officials for formal declaration. The statement, which surfaced during a press briefing with Channels Television, quickly gained traction after a video clip began circulating widely on social media.
The comment has since stirred intense public debate, raising concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process. For many observers, such claims—if substantiated—could further erode confidence in the integrity and transparency of elections, particularly those conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The video started circulating after INEC removed David Mark’s led ADC and it’s controversies are growing. Okocha’s was seeing in the video laying claims to his antecedents while in office. No formal confirmation has been issued by relevant authorities, and the context of the statement whether reflective, rhetorical, or otherwise remains in the air.
Nonetheless, the situation highlights a recurring challenge within the country’s democratic framework: the need to strengthen public trust through accountability, transparency, and credible electoral processes.
Something similar to Okocha’s was recorded at FCT Election where recording sheets were seen altered and some results appeared manipulated which has put a huge question mark on the INEC ahead 2027 Elections.
