The Muslim Political Awareness Front (MUPAF) has thrown its weight behind the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

The endorsement was announced on Sunday, June 21, 2026, during the group’s public orientation programme themed “Muslim Ummah in Politics: Our Unity, Our Strength,” held at GMT Event Centre, Ring Road, Osogbo.

Addressing participants at the event, MUPAF National Coordinator, Alhaji Lukman Obembe, described Oyebamiji as a competent, trustworthy, and God-fearing leader with the capacity to move Osun State forward.

Obembe said the organisation’s decision followed a careful assessment of the APC candidate’s contributions to humanity and his commitment to the development of Osun State over the years.

He disclosed that MUPAF would activate its network of Political Dawah Warriors across the state to mobilise support for Oyebamiji ahead of the election. According to him, members would engage residents in mosques, communities, and public spaces to encourage voter participation and support for the APC candidate.

“We believe Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji possesses the intelligence, wisdom, and sense of fairness needed to provide quality leadership for Osun State. We are convinced that he will run an inclusive administration that accommodates everyone regardless of religious or ethnic background,” Obembe said.

He further urged members of the group to intensify efforts to reach undecided voters and enlighten them on the importance of electing leaders with proven character and competence.

Responding to the endorsement, Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to the Muslim group for its confidence in his candidacy, assuring residents that his administration would pursue balanced and equitable development across all parts of the state.

The APC governorship candidate pledged that no community would be left behind under his leadership, stressing that developmental projects and government interventions would be spread across urban and rural areas alike.

Oyebamiji also dismissed reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for the forthcoming governorship election.

Describing the claims as false and misleading, he maintained that he remains the officially recognised APC candidate for the August 15 poll and called on voters to support his ambition at the ballot box.

Earlier, the keynote speaker at the event, Al-Imam Mukhtar Adedimeji Raji, urged Muslims to embrace unity and collective action, noting that support for credible and responsible leadership would bring progress and prosperity to society.

He advised Muslim politicians and public office holders to prioritise service, integrity, and value-driven leadership rather than personal interests.

Also speaking, the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Imam Yunus Olushina Teliat Ayilara II, encouraged Muslims across Osun State to actively participate in politics and democratic processes.

The respected Islamic scholar noted that Muslims constitute a significant percentage of the state’s population and should therefore play a more active role in shaping its political future.

He also urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that political participation is consistent with Islamic principles and remains essential for societal development.

The event attracted a large gathering of Muslim stakeholders, Islamic clerics, community leaders, APC political figures, and MUPAF members from different parts of Osun State, all united by a common call for greater political awareness and engagement ahead of the governorship election.
