The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) has positioned itself as a significant political force with the capacity to influence the outcome of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, according to Alhaji Abass Olaniyi, the group’s Southwest Coordinator and a stakeholder of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Olaniyi made this assertion while speaking on the Lero Temi podcast hosted by Mukhtar Ajelogbon, where he highlighted GHSM’s expansive grassroots structure, widespread popularity, and proven voter-mobilization strength across the state. He noted that the movement is yet to align with any aspirant, stressing that the PDP has not formally presented its candidate for the race.
Despite the absence of an official endorsement, Olaniyi stated unequivocally that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate is not under consideration, reflecting the group’s firm opposition to the ruling party in Osun State.
He attributed GHSM’s growing influence to its ability to galvanize grassroots networks, coordinate statewide political engagement, and exert meaningful pressure on party decision-making processes. According to him, the movement has consistently played pivotal roles in electoral contests where it has been actively involved.
Extending his outlook to the national political arena, Olaniyi projected that President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated electoral setback in 2027 would begin in Osun State, underscoring the state’s strategic importance in shaping both sub-national and national political outcomes.
He emphasized that GHSM’s priority remains ensuring that the PDP fields a credible, broadly acceptable, and electorally viable candidate capable of earning the trust and support of the electorate.
The comments further highlight GHSM’s rising relevance within the Southwest political landscape and signal a critical phase of strategic positioning as Osun State approaches its next gubernatorial election cycle.
