Ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed former Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, as its flagbearer.
Oyebamiji’s affirmation followed the conclusion of the party’s governorship primary held on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital. The decision was reached through a consensus arrangement endorsed by the APC National Working Committee.
Announcing the outcome, former governorship aspirant, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, disclosed that all other aspirants agreed to step down in support of Oyebamiji. He formally moved the motion for Oyebamiji’s adoption as the party’s consensus candidate, with the full consent of the aspirants.
“I, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, with the approval of all other aspirants, move that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji be adopted as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2026 governorship election,” Adegoke declared.
The motion was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare, effectively sealing Oyebamiji’s emergence as the party’s candidate. Subsequently, all 1,660 accredited delegates unanimously cast their votes in his favour.
Several aspirants were present at the primary, including former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Adegboyega Oralusi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Dotun Babayemi, and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.
Chairman of the Osun APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, later formally announced Oyebamiji as the APC’s governorship candidate.
In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji called for unity within the party, urging all aspirants and stakeholders to work collectively toward securing victory in the general election. He also observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late immediate past APC State Chairman, Oba Famodun, and a former local government chairman, Hon. Abass, who was killed during the recent local government leadership crisis in the state.
