A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) has confirmed the expulsion of several top party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, former Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and others. Their removal was attributed to alleged anti-party activities.

The NEC also approved the dissolution of the party’s State Executive Committees in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti states. These resolutions were made during the 103rd meeting of the NEC held at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja.

According to the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, the expelled members were sanctioned for ignoring court rulings and engaging in actions that brought disrepute to the party. His memo on the matter was approved by NEC during the meeting.

The meeting’s communique, read by National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, stated that the NEC convened on 18 November 2025 to address issues threatening the party’s stability and unity. The NEC expressed concern over members who violated court orders by organizing or attending an “unauthorized and illegal” convention, which created confusion and factional crises within the party.

NEC said it received a comprehensive briefing from the Acting National Chairman outlining breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution. The committee then approved disciplinary actions against a list of senior party members, including Wabara, Bode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Turaki, Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, Udom Emmanuel, and others.

In addition, NEC directed Chief Ali Odefa to refund all salaries and allowances he received after his earlier expulsion in December 2024. The committee also ratified Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East). Caretaker committees are to be set up in states where excos were dissolved, while the Edo State exco led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor was affirmed.

NEC further mandated that deputies of all vacant National Working Committee positions immediately assume acting roles. It formally recognized Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman. The party’s legal team was instructed to begin legal processes to reclaim seats of defected elected officials as allowed under the 1999 Constitution.

The committee also approved a nationwide reconciliation program, membership audit, and revalidation exercise ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing that reconciliation must not compromise discipline. NEC reassured members that these decisions were meant to restore order and strengthen the PDP, insisting that the party will no longer tolerate indiscipline.

Earlier, the BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman encouraged party members to stay committed, expressing optimism that the party would overcome its current challenges.
