...it is a mission to secure the future of our youths – Gov. Adeleke

The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his dedication to safeguarding the future of young people, describing the Imole War Against Drug Abuse (IWADA) as a crucial mission aimed at saving youths and students from the dangers of drug misuse.

Mr. Governor made this known while hosting the IWADA delegation, led by the Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Hon. Adenike Adeleke, at his office in Abere. He stressed that the initiative goes beyond ordinary programming, noting that drug abuse destroys the health, aspirations, and families of affected youths.

Governor Adeleke also applauded the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its efforts and urged the agency to intensify operations across communities and borders to prevent Osun from becoming a route for illicit drugs. He assured continuous government support to ensure the IWADA campaign reaches every part of the state.

While Speaking, Hon. Adenike Adeleke thanked the Governor for his unwavering support, noting that IWADA clubs have already been established in all schools visited. She added that educational songs are being broadcast on radio stations to educate students on drug laws. She revealed that the next phase of the campaign will involve community outreach and door-to-door sensitization by 2026.

Also speaking, Barr. Omotosin John, who represented the NDLEA Zonal Commander for Osun and Oyo States, praised the initiative for bringing “light, protection, and hope” to vulnerable youths. He disclosed that 5,079 students across secondary schools in the state have already benefitted from the awareness program, commending the collaboration between the state government and the NDLEA.
