The Osun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting that claimed the life of a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Yusuf, a resident of the Oke-Ayepe area of Osogbo, was reportedly shot by suspected hoodlums at about 4:00 p.m. in the Itaolokan area of the state capital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident occurred after Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, paid a courtesy visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, at the palace.

The police said that shortly after the visit, a man identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of the singer’s security team.

The situation reportedly escalated when other suspected gang members joined the confrontation. According to the police, the group temporarily blocked the entrance to the palace and obstructed the movement of the convoy.

The convoy, however, eventually left the area safely, while the suspected gang members also departed from the vicinity.

Police said that shortly afterwards, the suspects allegedly shot Tajudeen Yusuf at Itaolokan as they were leaving the area.

Upon receiving the report, officers were immediately deployed to the scene, where Yusuf was found lying in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, for treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors on duty.

The police command said it had intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that those found responsible would be brought to justice.

The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the incident and assured residents that the command would deploy all available resources to apprehend those behind the killing.

The police also appealed to members of the public with relevant information to approach the nearest police station or contact the command through its official channels.

The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, assuring the public that further information would be released as the investigation progresses.
