...Urges Police to End Support for ‘Yes/No’ Officials
Governor Ademola Adeleke has welcomed the Osogbo court judgment, describing it as a victory for constitutional democracy and the rule of law. He congratulated what he referred to as the duly elected local government chairmen, noting that the decision reinforced existing judicial precedents that tenure extension in public office is unconstitutional.
According to Adeleke, the court also held that the applicants lacked the legal standing to institute the suit, effectively affirming that the tenure of the affected chairmen expired in October 2025.
“The judgment has once again validated the constitutional position on tenure elongation and confirmed that the affected chairmen have no legal basis to continue occupying local government offices,” the governor said.
Following the ruling, Adeleke called on the Inspector-General of Police to direct the Osun State Police Command to withdraw support for the chairmen currently occupying local government secretariats across the state.
He specifically urged the Commissioner of Police to discontinue security protection for what he described as the illegal occupation of council facilities and to support the restoration of elected local government officials.
The governor also raised concerns over the management of local government funds, calling on the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to cease any dealings with the affected officials.
Adeleke recalled that the bank had previously sworn to an affidavit stating that all local government funds remained intact and urged the financial institution to ensure that every kobo belonging to the councils is properly accounted for.
He further demanded that legally recognised signatories be granted access to the local government accounts to facilitate the payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and other statutory obligations.
“Our campaign flag-off holds tomorrow as scheduled. We remain focused and will not be distracted. Efforts to stop our re-election bid have failed, and continuity will prevail,” the governor added.
Adeleke concluded by calling on supporters across the state to turn out in large numbers for the campaign launch, expressing optimism that his administration would secure another mandate from the electorate.
