The Osun State Government has announced the opening of the newly completed Okefia and Lameco flyovers in Osogbo, a move expected to ease traffic congestion and improve movement across the state capital during the Ileya celebrations.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Bashir Bello, who disclosed that the two bridges would officially be opened to motorists on Monday evening.
According to the government, the flyovers became operational from 4:30 p.m. on May 25, 2026, following the completion of major construction works on the projects. The decision to open the routes ahead of the festive period was aimed at ensuring smoother vehicular movement within the metropolis.
Residents and commuters in Osogbo have long faced heavy traffic around the affected corridors, especially during festive seasons and peak business hours. The opening of the flyovers is therefore expected to bring significant relief to motorists and road users navigating the busy areas.
The Okefia and Lameco flyovers are considered strategic infrastructure projects designed to modernise transportation within the state capital while improving connectivity between major parts of Osogbo and surrounding communities.
Engr. Bello also commended residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction phase, noting that the support of the public contributed greatly to the successful completion of the projects.
He further appealed to motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic regulations and use the new infrastructure responsibly in order to guarantee safety and maintain free flow of traffic around the corridors.
The commissioning and opening of the flyovers represent another major step in the Osun State Government’s ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda, which is focused on improving road networks, reducing travel time, and enhancing economic activities across the state.
