The Springtime Development Foundation (SDF) and Veronica Adeleke Empowerment Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, have empowered more than 500 women across Osun State with practical skills in domestic farming and entrepreneurship.

The landmark initiative, held at the SDF headquarters in Ede, was designed to teach women how to farm conveniently in their own compounds while also building small-scale business knowledge to support their household income.

As part of the empowerment, the state government also provided a N50,000 grant for each beneficiary to put their new skills into action and kickstart their ventures.

While speaking to the newsmen at the event, Hon. Ayobola Awolowo, Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, praised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to uplifting women, describing he described the project as a clear demonstration of the governor’s vision for inclusive growth and grassroots empowerment.

According to her, women trained under the programme would be able to sustain their families and contribute to Osun’s economy without relying heavily on external support. “This initiative is about independence and dignity for women,” she noted.

Hon. Mrs. Dada Bukola, Chairperson of Atakumosa West, who also commended the initiative said the governor has shown true dedication to the welfare of Osun people. She highlighted that empowering women with skills that can stand the test of time is one of the most impactful investments in society.

In her separate remarks, Mrs. Aroke Oluwakemi, wife of the Ife South Local Government Chairman, described the programme as a lifeline for many women with little or no resources. She stressed that the training and financial support would serve as a solid foundation for small businesses and household resilience.

“This project is a real backup for women, especially those who had nothing doing before now. It gives them an opportunity to create something for themselves and their families,” she said.

For beneficiaries like Adeyeni Aderonke Deborah from Ilesa West, the training was life-changing. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Adeleke and the organisers, saying the programme had opened a door to self-sufficiency.

“With this training, I can now farm within my compound and provide food for my family. I won’t have to depend on others for survival anymore,” she said with excitement, reflecting the renewed hope and confidence shared by hundreds of women across Osun.
