Adeleke secures second term
The victory gives Adeleke another four-year mandate after his first election as Osun governor in 2022.

The 2026 contest had been closely watched nationally, with the APC mounting a strong challenge against the incumbent and deploying several of its leading national figures to Osun during the final stage of the campaign.

The APC concluded its campaign in Osogbo on Thursday, August 13, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, former governor Gboyega Oyetola, former APC chairman Bisi Akande, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Senator Iyiola Omisore and several APC governors campaigning for Oyebamiji.
Despite the strong APC mobilisation, Adeleke emerged victorious after the votes were counted and results collated across the state.

Adeleke defeats APC challenge
Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes represented a strong challenge to the incumbent, but fell short of Adeleke’s total by more than 66,000 votes.

The result brings to an end months of intense campaigning, political mobilisation and exchanges between the two major camps.

Adeleke’s supporters are expected to celebrate the victory, while attention will now turn to the next phase of his administration and the commitments made during the campaign.

The governor had campaigned on the record of his administration and urged voters to support continuity, while the APC candidate sought to persuade residents that Osun needed a change in direction.
