The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s governorship ticket for the 2026 election due to the escalating internal crisis at the national level.

This disclosure was made on Tuesday by the PDP State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, during a press conference held at the party secretariat in Osogbo. According to Bisi, the unresolved leadership struggle and growing factional disagreements at the national headquarters of the party have continued to generate uncertainty across state chapters.

Bisi stressed that although Governor Adeleke has already been cleared by the party to contest the next Osun governorship election, the worsening national crisis is currently affecting his willingness to formally pursue the ticket.

“The governor has been duly cleared to run for the 2026 election, and as of today, he remains the only aspirant who has shown interest in the PDP ticket. However, the national instability of our party is a major concern,” the chairman said.

He explained that Governor Adeleke remains fully committed to the party and to governance in Osun State, but is deeply worried about the credibility and fairness of the party’s internal processes if the crisis persists.

The chairman also noted that the Osun PDP leadership is intensifying engagements with the national leadership in an effort to resolve the lingering disputes and restore confidence among party members ahead of the 2026 polls.

Political analysts believe that Adeleke’s possible withdrawal from the PDP ticket race is significant to a point that political calculations might already be sealed with a party yet to be made official as opposition parties are already positioning ahead of the next election.

Despite the concerns, Bisi maintained that the Osun PDP remains united and focused on retaining power in the state, adding that discussions are still ongoing with the governor and other stakeholders to ensure stability within the party.

As the crisis within the PDP at the national level continues to deepen, observers say the final decision of Governor Adeleke will play a decisive role in shaping the political direction of Osun ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
