The Osun State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally announced the rescheduling of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

In accordance with a directive from the Commission’s National Headquarters in Abuja, the election earlier fixed for Saturday, 8 August 2026, will now be conducted on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

The Commission confirmed that several activities outlined in the approved Timetable and Schedule of Activities have already been successfully concluded. Remaining processes will be executed strictly in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and other applicable legal frameworks.

INEC emphasized that the revised date is fully consistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, 2026. The adjustment, it noted, does not affect its preparedness or resolve to deliver a free, fair, credible, inclusive, and transparent governorship election.

The Commission reiterated that the success of the electoral process requires collective responsibility. Under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Osun State Office urged political parties, candidates, security agencies, the media, civil society organisations, and the electorate to sustain cooperation to ensure a peaceful and credible election that reflects the will of the people of Osun State.

Further updates, the Commission stated, will be communicated as necessary.
