President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to set aside political, ethnic, and religious differences and unite for the progress of the nation. He stressed that national unity remains the key driver for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development as the country celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who represented President Bola Tinubu at a special Juma’a prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, he reaffirmed that Nigeria’s strength lies in collective effort. He called on citizens to support one another and work together to secure the nation’s future.
“Mr President has asked me to remind Nigerians that regardless of affiliations, backgrounds, or beliefs, we must stand united. Our journey to sustainable prosperity can only be achieved through unity and dedication,” Idris stated during the prayer session.
Tinubu acknowledged that Nigeria has faced enormous challenges in the last 65 years, ranging from political instability to economic hardship and security threats. However, he emphasized that the nation is now on a positive trajectory toward growth. “Alhamdulilah, today Nigeria is on the path of sustainable development,” he added.
The Minister highlighted the theme of this year’s celebration, “All Hands on Deck for the Progress and Development of Our Nation,” saying it underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, national cohesion, and collective responsibility.
While delivering the sermon, Professor Luqman Zakariya, an Imam of the National Mosque, prayed for God’s guidance for Nigeria’s leaders. He called on citizens to cleanse their hearts of corruption, tribalism, and injustice, urging them to embrace peace and righteousness. “The source of peace, we seek your peace upon Nigeria, dispel the cloud of insecurity and establish lasting peace and tranquility across our land,” he prayed.
The prayer service attracted dignitaries such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, members of the Federal Executive Council, lawmakers from both chambers of the National Assembly, state representatives, and foreign diplomats. Ambassadors from Algeria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina were also present.
Independence activities continues with an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, a press conference on Monday, and the Presidential broadcast and anniversary parade on October 1, where President Tinubu is expected to outline his vision for Nigeria’s future.
