The League of Peace Ambassadors, Humanity and Human Rights Advocates (LOPAHHRA) has expressed deep concern over alleged attempts by some influential political figures in Osun State to interfere in the ongoing investigations and legal processes surrounding the recent arrest of members of a notorious killer gang by the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command.

In a strongly worded statement released today, LOPAHHRA commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it described as a “commendable feat deserving accolades,” following the successful apprehension of several high-profile gang members who have allegedly terrorized Osogbo and its environs for years.

Among those arrested were the gang’s feared leader Oriyomi, also known as Yahoo, his deputy Mafia, and four other key members. In a further breakthrough, another notorious figure, Waliyi Adejare, popularly known as JayJay, was also captured. Intelligence reports suggest JayJay was not only a deserting soldier but a close associate of one Nuru Alowonle, under whose alleged directive violent attacks were carried out.

LOPAHHRA warns that any attempt to influence the release of these suspects or obstruct justice in any form would amount to a gross betrayal of public trust and a dangerous affront to national security.

“We have credible information indicating that certain politicians are exerting pressure on the Police Command in Osun State to release these suspects or dilute the severity of the charges against them,” the statement reads. “This is unacceptable. These individuals are not mere cultists, they are domestic terrorists responsible for heinous crimes including multiple murders, armed assaults, and public terror. Any attempt to shield them from justice should be viewed as aiding and abetting terrorism.”

The group detailed a litany of violent crimes attributed to the arrested individuals, including the brutal murder of several citizens between 2022 and 2025, and the near-fatal attack on a physically challenged commercial driver, Mr. Samuel Ayodele Oni, allegedly orchestrated by JayJay on the orders of his political benefactor.

LOPAHHRA urged the Nigeria Police Force not to succumb to threats or political influence in handling the prosecution of these suspects. The organization stressed that justice must be served, not only to bring closure to the victims’ families but to restore public confidence in the justice system.

“We urge the Nigeria Police to remain resolute. This is not just a state matter, it borders on national security and must be treated as such. We also call on the National Security Adviser (NSA) to urgently intervene and oversee these cases, ensuring that all suspects, including those still at large, are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the Terrorism Prevention Act.”

The group reiterated that the impunity with which such gangs have operated in Osun State is a clear symptom of systemic failure and lack of accountability, often enabled by political protection.

“It is time to break the unholy alliance between violent gangs and politicians who use them for electoral and territorial control,” LOPAHHRA stated.

While raising this alarm, LOPAHHRA lauded the courage and professionalism of the Anti-Cultism Squad of the Nigeria Police, Osun State Command. The group described the arrest operations as a significant milestone in the fight against organized crime and cult-related terrorism in the region.

“The officers involved in these operations have displayed exemplary bravery and commitment to public safety. They deserve the highest national commendation. This is the kind of policing Nigeria needs to end the culture of violence that continues to plague our communities.”

The League concluded its statement by calling on civil society, the media, and all patriotic Nigerians to remain vigilant and ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied in this case.
